Average Heat Pump Weight (with 5 examples)

Does This Pad Make My Heat Pump Look Big?

Regardless of your need to know how much a heat pump weighs, you can see from the data below that a residential heat pump is going to weigh anywhere from about 135 to 280 pounds depending on the BTU’s. My charts contain information related to 14 SEER heat pumps. As the SEER ratings go up so will the weight, just slightly.

Shipping weight was available for some units, but it safe to say that about 10 pounds of pallet and cardboard are sufficient to cover that added weight.

Along with the weight below, there are some links and images that will send you to Amazon and you can price compare.

Goodman Heat Pumps

I’m kind of partial to Goodman heat pumps. They are price right and I’m having good experience with the dependability. In 2019 I had a call on one I’d installed just over 10 years prior. It had a bad contactor.

It’s the first of many that I’ve had to go back on, and for a rather common issue with HVAC equipment.

Rheem Heat Pumps

Rheem and Ruud, kind of like Chevy and GMC are everywhere in my neck of the high desert. They have provided a lot of people with good dependable and economical heating and cooling.

I just have to remind everyone that’s interested in new HVAC equipment that it’s not who makes the best heat pump, it’s who does the best job at installing.

Carrier Heat Pumps

Carrier does not support the Amazon community and it’s easy to understand why. It’s difficult for a contractor to present a quote to a customer and then that customer price shops on Amazon or the internet in general.

I had this happen recently. My customer left a note at the bottom of there invoice telling me that my prices were a lot higher that Amazon. My simple answer is, “I don’t compete with Amazon.”

When parts enter my service truck for stock, the prices go up.

Trane Heat Pumps

Don’t think you’ll find Trane equipment on Amazon

I’ve always respected the way Trane builds their units. Always a little heaver on the cabinets, as you can see compared to the others in this post.

Lennox

I’m still searching for the unit weight minus the shipping carton and pallet. Seems Lennox deemed it unnecessary for the general public. Pretty safe to say that the shipping weight minus about 15 lbs or 6.8 kg should give you an accurate enough assumption of the units pressure upon the ground (weight).

No Lennox on Amazon either. It’s been said over the years that manufacturers don’t sell to the public to protect there dealer from DIY’ers and those that are not trained to make a proper installation.

Conclusion

My conclusion to the data would be a question. Why are you seeking this information?

One assumption I have is that maybe you plan of moving or relocating your unit and want to know what kind of a strain you’re about to put upon your back.

Oh, I just came up with another reason. Your pad is unlevel and you want to make it look good because you’re selling your house or you just like things to look aesthetically pleasing. In that case read this article about how to easily lift a unit to level or replace the pad.
